Special Operations Command/Technical Rescue (SOC/TR)

LFD Rescue Companies

From left to right: Rescue Engine 8, Rescue Engine 9 Rescue Engine 13, Rescue Engine 12, and Rescue 1.

SOC/TR is responsible for Rapid Intervention, High/Low Angle Rope, Trench, Confined Space, Surface Water Rescue, Structural Collapse and any other Technical Rescue.  The 5 companies involved are Engine 8, Engine 9, Engine 12, Engine 13 and Rescue 1.  These units are commanded by Unit 230 (Batt. Chief) and the District Major of the district the company is assigned.

SOC/TR has been fully staffed since March of 2000.  Until then SOC/TR was accomplished by different companies throughout the city.  In June of 2005, Engines 8 and 12 were initiated into SOC/TR.  They were assigned one quarter of the city for Rapid Intervention incidents.  Structure fire responses within the Lexington Fire Dept. will get you 3 Engines, 2 Ladders, 1 EC unit (ambulance), 1 District Major, The Rescue and the closest Squad.  This has been a very successful direction that the fire dept has taken us.  SOC/TR units average approx. 200 hours of extra training per year.  This is after the required 100 hours dictated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
