Welcome to the unofficial site of Firehouse 13. Firehouse 13 is one of 23 Firehouses in Lexington/Fayette County, housing Rescue Engine 13 and District Major 203. Engine 13 serves the west side of Fayette County and operates in District Three. Engine 13 is one of four Rescue Engine Companies in the city.
Engine 13 works as an Engine Co. in our 1st, 2nd and 3rd due response areas. We operate as a Rescue Squad Co. for the following responses: Building Collapse, Rope, Trench, Swift Water , and Confined Space Rescue throughout the Urban/County. Upon the receipt of a Technical Rescue Incident the two closest Rescue Engines and Rescue 1 will respond.
In addition the Rescue Engine companies are the Rapid Intervention Teams for the LFD and respond to all Structure fires.

May 1 - MVC requiring Extrication @ Old Frankfort Pike and Alexandria Dr. (First Platoon) - Engine 13 and other companies responded to a car accident with reports of a vehicle overturned. Upon arrival a single vehicle was found laying on its side. The occupant was quickly extricated and transported to the hospital. Assignment: E13, EC6, L3, 203, RS1 and 242.

April wrap-up: Total Runs: Engine 13 - 141 (55 EMS, 86 Fire). **Crews spent their Monday Technical Rescue Training setting up and running rope rescue high-lines. **Congrats to FF (who? me? command?) Poynter (E13 2nd) for completing the Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue class at EKU. Also completing the class were FF (Animal Medic (that's what the vest said, I hear there are pictures)) Whitt (RS1 2nd), Major (Llama Rustler) Tracy (205 2nd), FF Johnson (EC8 2nd), FF Preston (E1 2nd) and FF Hayden (E18 1st.)
Apr. 30 - Structure Fire @ 801 Nandino Blvd. (Third Platoon) - Call for initially for a dumpster fire. Upon arrival crews had found extension into the structure. Assignment: E10, E8, E4, L3, L5, EC6, 203, E13 (RIT) and RS1.
Apr. 25 - Structure Fire @ 417 St. John Ct. (First Platoon) - Engine 13, RIT, responded to a kitchen fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. Minor overhaul was needed. Assignment: E8, E4, E1, L5, L3, EC6, 203, E13 (RIT) and RS1.
Apr. 24 - Missing Person in Masterson Station Subdivision (Third Platoon) - Engine 13 and additional companies responded for a reported missing person. Fire units conducted a door to door canvas of the area. Lexington Police Department, Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Corrections (from Blackburn facility) had K-9 units assist in the search. Subject was found four hours later and returned home. Assignment: 203, E13, L3, EC1, E8, and HM1.
Apr. 22 - Structure Fire @ 821 De Roode St. (First Platoon) - Second structure fire in two days. Heavy smoke and fire reported from first arriving companies. Engine 13 was dedicated RIT company. Assignment: E6, E4, E5, L2, L1, EC9, 205, E13 (RIT) and RS1.
Apr. 21 - Structure Fire @ 742 Whitney Ave. (Third Platoon) - Engine 13 responded as the RIT company to a reported structure fire. First arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire conditions. Extinguishment was difficult due to the stairway to the second floor had burned through. Structure required heavy overhaul. Assignment: E4, E10, E1, L3, L1, EC9, 205, E13 (RIT) and RS1.
Apr. 17 - Structure Fire @ 2400 Old Frankfort Pike (First Platoon) - Early morning call for a reported structure fire in the Enterprise Dr. area. Engine 13, first due, found a fire in a horse barn. Fire was contained to the general area of origin. Crews remained on scene to remove a significant amount of hay and straw from the loft area to check for any extension. Assignment: E13, E10, E14, L3, L4, EC6, 203, E8 (RIT) and RS1.
Apr. 15 - Structure Fire @ 363 Thompson Rd. (Third Platoon) - Engine 13 was first due to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival Engine 13 had smoke visible from a commercial structure. Upon entry they found a vehicle on fire inside. The fire was extinguished without extension to the structure. Assignment: E13, E10, E1, L3, L1, EC6, 203, and E8 (RIT.)
Apr. 10 - Alert 2 @ Bluegrass Field (First Platoon) - Engine 13 responded to Blugrass Airport for a reported aircraft in trouble. The aircraft reported a broken windshield. The aircraft landed without incident. Assignment: E14, E20, E13, L4, L3, EC5, 204, RS1, E12 (RIT,) HM1 and 242.
Apr. 4 - (FIrst Platoon) - Heavy rains brought lots of work to Engine 13. The day started as residents awoke to flooded basements. Engine 13 assisted owners in making the residences safe by securing electric and gas utilites when needed.
Engine 13 also made two swift water rescue responses for reported vehicles and victims in the water. The first to the area of Rice Rd. and Versailles Rd. (Assignment: E14, EC5, 203, E13, E12, RS1, and RC1.) And the second to 3750 Paris Pike (Assignment: E8, EC3, 201, E13, E9, RS1, and RC1.) Thankfully no actual rescues were needed.
An initial call for smoke in the structure at 2062 Tamarack Dr. was upgraded to a full structure fire response as first due companies reported fire in an attached strucutre. Engine 13 responded at the dedicated RIT. Assignment: E11, E14, L2, EC5, 204, and RS1. Structure Fire upgrade: E12, L1, and E13 (RIT.)
Apr. 2 - Structure Fire @ 2300 Rocky Point Ct. (Second Platoon) - District Major 203 and Engine 13 (initially second due) responded to a reported structure fire with multiple calls. Engine 11, first due, pulled one line to side A of the duplex and Engine 13 pulled a line to side B. Crews were met with clear conditions in the living area, but could hear the fire in the attic. After gaining access to the attic Engine 13 was able to extinguish the main body of the fire. Crews spent a lot of time on scene perfoming overhaul. Assignment: E11, E13, E20 (replaced by E14 who cleared an EMS incident,) L4, L3, EC9, E12 (RIT), 203 and RS1. Added: 204, 200, MA1 and HM2 (who were in the area.)
Apr. 1 - Structure Fire @ 1101 Beaumont Centre Ln. (First Platoon) - Engine 13 responded as the dedicated RIT company to a reported structure fire. Engine 20 reported a small attic fire. The fire was extinguished but required extensive overhaul. Assignment: E20, E11, E12, L4, L2, EC9, 204, E13 (RIT), and RS1.

Mar. 31 - Structure Fire @ 129 Leesway Dr. (Third Platoon) - Companies were dispatched to a reported structure fire. Engine 13 clearing an EMS run responded as first due. Upon arrival had moderate smoke showing. Crew discovered a small contents fire in the basement. The fire was quickly extinguished. Assignment: E10, E4, E14, L3, L1, EC5, 203, E8 (RIT), and RS1. Added: E13.
Mar. 18 - Structure Fire @ 1937 Millbank Rd. (Second Platoon) - Engine 13, assigned RIT, and 203 responded to a reported structure fire. Engine 8 arrived and advised they had a well involved kitchen fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. Assignment: E8, E19, E2, L5, L3, EC3, 203, E13 (RIT) and RS1.
Mar. 17 - Gas Odor @ Spurr Rd. and Lucille Dr. (First Platoon) - Engine 13, second due, and 203 responded to an odor in the area of Spurr Rd. and Luciile Dr. It was a LPG leak from a small ground tank stored at a LPG distributor site. The tank was shut off without incident. Assignment: E10, E13, L3, EC3, 203 and HM1.
Mar. 16 - Alert 1 @ Bluegrass Field (Third Platoon) - Engine 13 responded third due to a reported a small private aircraft in trouble. Report from the control tower was no visible front landing gear deployed. The aircraft was able to land and there were no injuries. Assignment: E14, E20, E13, L4, L3, EC5, 204, RS1, E12, HM1, and 242.
Mar. 8 - Vehicle Fire @ Old Frankfort Pike and Alexandria Dr. (Third Platoon) - The Lexington area was hit with an unseasonable amount of snow 8-10" (it's a lot for us) and Engine 13 was called out for a reported vehicle fire. Upon arrival Engine 13 found a vehicle totally involved. Additional engine company was requested due to weather conditions. Initial Assignment: E13. Added: E10 and 203.
Mar. 5 - Alert 2 @ Bluegrass Field (First Platoon) - Engine 13 responded with other companies to a reported inbound aircraft experiencing engine problems. Plane landed without incident. Assignment: E14, E13, E11, L4, L3, EC9, 204, RS1, E12 (RIT), HM1, and 242. Added: E20.
Mar. 3 - MVC @ South Forbes Rd. and Old Frankfort Pike/Manchester St. (Second Platoon) - Engine 13 was dispatched to a reported MVC. Upon arrival discovered one patient was entrapped. Full "Jaws" response was requested. Patient was quickly extricated. Initial Assignment: E13 and EC5. Added: L3, 203, RS1 and 242. Requested: EC7.
Mar. 1 - Structure Fire @ Leestown Rd., near Alexandria (Third Platoon) - March seems to be starting out as a busy month for the crews on Engine 13 and 203. After spending most of the day completing overhaul on the earlier fire on Village Dr., Engine 13 and 203 responded first due to a reported structure fire in the area of Leestown Rd. and Alexandria Dr. When they arrived on scene they discovered it was a piece of farm machinery on fire inside a barn. They quickly extinguished the fire preventing further spread. Crews remained on scene until the machinery was removed from the building. Assignment: E13, E10, E4, L3, L1, EC6, 203, E8 (RIT) and RS1. Added: 200.
Mar. 1 - Structure Fire @ 1346 Village Dr. (Second Platoon) - Engine 13 responded third due and 203 responded as IC to a structure fire. First due Engine 14 reported heavy smoke and flames from the second floor of an apartment building upon arrival. Engine 13 reversed laid 400' of 5" supply line to secure the water source. Little progress was made with the initial attack lines on the main body of the fire so IC had E13A&B advance a 2 1/2" to the second floor. A second alarm was sounded for additional manpower. Main body of fire was knocked down but extensive overhaul was required in the void spaces. E13 Third Platoon relieved Second Platoon on the scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation. One firefighter was injured when his foot went through the floor, causing some minor burns to his foot. He was treated and released from the hospital.
